Joe Ades – Peeler Salesman

Joe Ades was a salesman and in the later parts of his life, predominantly a peeler salesman. He dressed like a gentleman and worked street-corners, pitching up with a seat, a table, a bag of carrots and potatoes and his supply of peelers. Then he’d simply start talking to himself out loud until someone stopped to listen. His credo: once one person stopped, two would stop. From two, he’d have a crowd and with a crowd, he’d start selling. Sadly Joe died in 2009 and the news was covered at the time in many leading publications....
