2011 marked the 40th anniversary for legendary rock band Queen whose style through the unique voice of the late great Freddie Mercury has not been repeated since. To celebrate the occasion, Queen drummer Roger Taylor launched a talent search to find incredible singers and musicians capable of joining the remaining band members on their Queen Extravaganza tour, planned for 2012. Cue thousands and thousands of YouTube videos submitted, some good and some not so good. Dan Trachtenberg – Portal: No Escape
Independent film-maker Dan Trachtenberg recently released his fan-film tribute to Valve Software’s Portal game series. Titled “Portal: No Escape” the short film features Danielle Rayne in the lead role, playing a woman who awakes to captivity in a strange dark place. What follows next is over all too soon but is worth the watching. Such is the critical praise being received by this creation that talk of a full-length feature follow-up is already taking place. Danny Macaskill – Industrial Revolutions
Danny MacAskill has created a new film called “Industrial Revolutions” which was filmed for the Channel 4 television documentary “Concrete Circus” that aired in the UK in the summer of 2011. Set in an abandoned railway ironworks facility, the quality of the stunts is matched by the rugged beauty of the surroundings and the haunting Ben Howard track ‘The Wolves’ that scores the visuals.
